Yoga in Costa Rica Travel

Espiritu Salvaje is located on the south western coast of Costa Rica near a small town called Uvita. From San Jose it is approximately a 3 1/2 - 4 hour drive by car going through several delightful mountain villages, driving through San Isidro del General, then towards Dominical and following the coastal road about 24 kilometers south of Dominical. ( see map below)

When you register for one of our retreats, we will go over all the details of how to get to the Yoga Center, suggestions of where you can stop for lunch and all the other information you will need to know. For now, these are some general ways you can choose to get to Spirito Salvaje from the San Jose airport:

Private Shuttle Service - We will arrange a private shuttle service to get you from the San Jose airport to Espiritu Salvaje and back to the airport at the end of the program. The cost will depend on the number of people who are choosing the shuttle service and you can estimate a very reasonable cost of around $40 one way per passenger.

Rental Car - There are several car rental companies operating near the San Jose airport. The one we usually use and get great service from has been Thrifty Car Rental...there are several others that also provide good service. If you would like the flexibility of driving and having a car available to you at the center to go into town or to visit other small villages in the area, there is available parking at the center. If you are interested in sharing a car and the cost with other participants, we can help you hook up with others who may wish to do the same.

Public Bus - The bus from San José to San Isidro leaves from the MUSOC terminal located on Calle Central/Ave. 22-24. Buses start to leave at 5:30am, from that time, one bus will leave every 30 minutes to an hour. This first leg of the trip takes about 3 - 4 hours.

To get to Uvita on the same day you must leave San Jose no later than 11:30am. Once in San Isidro you go to the Dominical terminal. Buses to Uvita/Palmar Sur leave at 9am and 4pm daily. The 9am bus makes it final stop in the town of Uvita, from there you will have to take a taxi to reach the center (about 4 km). If you are traveling on the 4pm bus, simply ask the driver to stop at La Cusinga. This leg of the trip takes about 2 hours.

Flying - You can take one of the local airlines, Sansa or Nature Air, take about a 30 minute flight and land in Palmar Sur, which is one hour away from the Yoga Center, then you would take a taxi from there.
