Through discussions, games, presentations, and activities, this retreat provides a wonderful opportunity for young people to come together to make new friends, increase self confidence, develop communication skills, practice yoga, participate in kirtan and meditation, enhance leadership skills and empower thinking of who you are and what you can accomplish in the future.
Activities
The activities on this retreat are fun, active, inspirational, empowering, and memorable.
Games & Crafts: We’ll be playing lots of games, mostly outdoors, that are fun, challenging and exciting. Also, the games help to build self confidence, leadership skills and cooperation with others. You will make gourd rattles and other objects that are colorful and fun which you can use when you return home.
Karma Yoga: You will devote some time each day to help transform this site into a beautiful creative center. Preparing gardens, landscaping, clearing fields, and cosmetic house work may be some of the ways you can contribute.
Hatha Yoga, Meditation and Kirtan: Several hatha yoga classes will be offered as well as mediatation and kirtan sessions - all intended to help bring strength, harmony and balance to one's life.
Nutrition: an important part of creating a powerful and healthy life for yourself. You will be eating delicious vegetarian meals as well as learning how to prepare and cook some of the tasty food.
Location
The retreat will be held at the LeelaMataPeacefulValley Ashram located in Sligo, Pennsylvania (about 5 hours west of New York City). Instructors
Kay LatchmanSingh is the co-owner and vice-president of Global Journeys. She provides a wealth of experience in travel and cultural connections. Kay was born and educated in British Guyana, moved to the U.S. and has traveled and worked with people in many European countries, Russia, Egypt, South Africa, British West Indies, and Central America. Her knowledge and connections with various cultures is a wonderful asset as she works with and teaches young people.
Kay loves working with youngsters. Her teachings have included: dance, cultural crafts & studies, concerts & theater and yoga. She also offers tasty workshops on how to prepare a wide variety of international cuisines. Kay is committed to enhancing the lives of the students she works with and her interactions with them are always of the highest quality. Her enthusiasm and sparkle for life are contributions that she makes with everyone she encounters.
Franco Mariniis the co-owner and director of Global Journeys. He has been a classroom teacher, an administrator and is the founder of Pathways, an alternative school in Colorado. Through his non-profit organization, Earth Challenges, he creates programs and has a vision focused on global acceptance and understanding.
He is a firm believer that our youngsters are the keepers of the possibilities of our future and is committed to offer a variety of programs that will empower youngsters to embrace the gifts they have within themselves.
Together, Franco and Kay create a dynamic and safe environment for young people to explore, learn, and have fun.
In addition to Kay and Franco there will be other people who willbe offering their guidance, stories, and talents.
A little about Leela Mata
Leela Matais an internationally known teacher with great wisdom. She comes from theSivananda lineage, and studied directly under Swami Vishnu Devananda for seven years. Leela Mata also studied Ayurveda with Dr. Vasant Ladd in both, the United States and India. In the United States Leela Mata directed the Yoga Vedanta Center in Ft. Lauderdale. While directing the center, she and Yogi Hari developed Sampoorna Yoga and trained over 700 teachers who practice throughout the world. She has also taught worldwide, including Africa, Europe, India, Canada and South America.
Each year Leela Mata makes a return pilgrimage to India for ongoing education and enlightenment. She actively continues her mission through the Leela Mata Foundation for Enlightenment. With her teaching she permanently provides a new thought-force that helps to promote the peace and harmony of mankind and the prosperity of society.
Cost, Accommodations, Dates, Terms & Conditions
Cost: The cost for the Yoga Camp for Kids is $625. This includes all meals at the Ashram, all accommodations, uniforms, arts and crafts, transportation from and to a meeting point in Queens and NYC, all planned activities and excursions. More specifics will be available when you call in.

Deposits and Payments: A down payment of $100 is required with the balance due the first week of August, 2008
Cancellations and Refunds: A 50% refund will be given for cancellations received between 45 - 59 days prior to departure.
No refunds will be made for cancellations received 44 or fewer days prior to departure.
Registration Packet: Upon registration you will be sent a packet including information on: a suggested packing list, details of activities, and other helpful details.
